Over 70 Regnum Christi members— Legionaries of Christ, Consecrated Women, and lay members— gathered at the convention center at Mundelein Seminary in Chicago last week for a Healing Ministry Symposium, a first of its kind event dedicated to exploring the role of healing ministry within the mission and spirituality of Regnum Christi and the broader Catholic Church.
Explaining the impetus for the event, Fr. John Bartunek, LC, said, “The Territorial Directive College of Regnum Christi felt a need to understand more fully how God is acting among us in terms of Healing Ministry, so as to eventually identify how we, as a spiritual family and apostolic body can best respond to that action while staying fully faithful to our own shared charism. The symposium was simply a first step in that process.”
The three-day symposium, held June 17–20, 2025, featured synodal exchange sessions, personal testimonies, and daily liturgies and prayer, providing participants with an opportunity to reflect on the theological, pastoral, and practical dimensions of healing ministry. The framework of the event was the document published by the General Directive College in January of 2023 titled “Considerations on Charisms, Healing Ministry, and Life in the Spirit.”
Guest speakers included Dr. Ralph Martin, president of Renewal Ministries, Gordon DeMarais, founder of Saint Paul’s Outreach (SPO), Dr. Alexandra Marcotte, LP, co-director of Sacred Ground Psychotherapy, and Fr. Boniface Hicks, OSB, a Benedictine Monk of Saint Vincent Archabbey. These Catholic experts in different aspects of healing ministry both listened to the participants who shared shared their insights on healing ministry in the Catholic Church as well their own personal experiences.

During the synodal exchange, 25 Regnum Christi members of different vocations spoke about their perspectives and experience involving healing ministry, as well their thoughts on its potential for integration with the Regnum Christi charism and mission.
Sensitive topics were also discussed, including healing ministry and mental illness and cautions about potential risks involved.
The Healing Ministry Symposium marks a significant step in Regnum Christi’s ongoing reflection on how healing ministry, properly integrated and discerned, can serve the Church’s mission of evangelization and spiritual renewal.
